David Lyden is an award-winning reporter and anchor who joined Northern Michigan’s News Leader as an intern in May of 2014. He stayed on as an intern until May of 2015. That’s when he joined the station full time following his graduation from Central Michigan University with a degree in Broadcast and Cinematic Arts.

He now reports on a daily basis and also co-anchors 9&10 News at 5.

David was born and raised in northern Michigan in the small town of Fairview in Oscoda County.

He graduated from Fairview High School in May of 2011.

While attending CMU, David anchored for the schools award winning news station, News Central 34. He also called CMU Women’s basketball, CMU Baseball and CMU Softball on the schools radio station Moore Rock Radio 91.5.

During his time at 9&10 News, David has been recognized as one of the top reporters in the state by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the Michigan Associated Press. He was honored by the Michigan AP for his coverage of the Baby Kate trial in Ludington in October of 2016. His investigative reporting has also garnered awards from across the state. The MAB honored David in 2019 for his investigation into financial double dipping allegations at a northern Michigan school district. The MAB and Michigan AP again honored David for his investigative work in 2020 for his report ‘Betrayal of Trust.’ The investigation found that a former priest credibly accused of misconduct with a minor and permanently removed from the ministry, was allowed to have a volunteer role around minors at a northern Michigan parish following his removal from the priesthood.

David helped lead the stations coverage of the 2016 Presidential Election and traveled to Madisonville, Kentucky to cover the Great American Eclipse in August of 2017.

David is proudly married to his wife Lori, a St. Ignace native, who he met at CMU.

When David isn’t out reporting he enjoys traveling, reading, cooking, cheering on his favorite sports teams (Go Tigers and Fire Up Chips), and discovering all the incredible sites, restaurants and breweries Northern Michigan has to offer.
