Twice a year – you can try your hand at fishing anywhere in Michigan – for free! This weekend is another “Free Fishing Weekend” across the state.

That means you don’t need a fishing license to go out and toss a line in the water. Whether you’re on a boat or fishing from shore, the DNR says it’s a great opportunity for residents and visitors alike to set your bait and reel in a fish worthy of telling stories about around the summer campfire.

Conservation Officer Will Kinney says, “It’s just a great opportunity for anglers young and old  to come out and enjoy this activity that maybe that have not partaken in some time. Or who might be interested in trying fishing.”

The DNR says all other fishing regulations still apply – so pay attention to size limits and how many fish you’re allowed to keep of a particular species.

The other Free Fishing Weekend is held in the winter.
