It might have been the Year of the Tiger in 2022, but in Northern Michigan, it was the Year of the Black Cat and the Piebald Deer.

With the help of eagle-eyed viewers, 9&10 News reported on a strange large black cat roaming the area in August, and in November, piebald deer that almost looked albino were caught on camera. These two interesting animal stories top our list of feel-good animal stories of the year.

But those weren’t the only animal tales that caught our attention this past year. Below, we round up our top five overall, starting with the cat and deer.

In August, a photographer was in Copemish for an event and saw an unusually large black cat. Not large as in Garfield, but large as in “is that a wild cat of some sort?” The photographer took photos of the cat, and they quickly were the talk of the town. . The Michigan DNR even investigated, and they concluded it was probably just a super-sized house cat. .

A rash of white and brown piebald deer sightings took place in late November. The rare animal, which looks albino but isn’t technically without coloring, was caught on camera numerous times by numerous people. Our photo gallery of it proved to be a hit. .

A puppy now named Clove had a terrifying experience in November when two people were arrested for throwing the dog off a bridge in Sault Ste. Marie. The story unfolded when the people were caught on camera, and police quickly were able to locate them. The dog was saved, thankfully, and the officer who rescued her even adopted her! .

Finley, a blue tick-hound Jack Russell, is an emotional support dog. He helped Jennifer Morency and her husband, Adam Boosey, for several years. But after Adam passed, Jennifer decided to give Finley to someone who needed the special help he can give. That person was Bryan Johnson from Marion, a veteran. Now Finley is helping Bryan. A hero helping a hero. We love it! .

Last but certainly not least, NanBop Farm is raising chicks at 9&10 News in Cadillac, and boy are they cute! They soon will be full-grown chickens, and whether or not those are cute is a personal preference, but these chicks are adorable. We have two video reports on the chicks you’ll want to check out. Here’s our report on , and here’s our report on .
