With all the snow headed our way and it being Christmas weekend, stores have been flooded with shoppers.

People bracing for the weather and the holidays have packed the stores over the past couple of days. The Honor Family Market in Benzie County says even smaller stores like theirs are feeling the impact.

“Because of this impending storm a lot of people are [coming out]. I’ve seen them not only buying their holiday items, other people are buying gallons of water,” Owner Tim Schneider reports.

Schneider says they don’t like to be ‘outguessed’ and have overstocked on certain items. However, they are still urging people to pick up the things they need while they’re still available.

“People always buy extra milk for the holidays, but now you’ve got a snow day, so they’re going to buy an extra gallon. We’re down to once-a-week delivery this time of the year. So, that on may be outguessing us,” Schneider admits.

With that in mind shoppers have flooded this week hoping to beat the rush and avoid the roads this weekend.

“I didn’t want to be snowed in, I didn’t want to be standing in long lines. I want to make sure the things I need are still available. Normally, I would’ve probably gone out on Friday to do this, but the snow spurred me to move a little faster, ” one shopper shares.

The Honor Family Market says they just want to make sure everyone has what they need to have a safe weekend and a merry Christmas.

“You know this is a small town and we’re the only grocery store here. We’ve got to work extra hard because if you come in here and we don’t have one item you’ve got to drive 10 to 15 miles to go somewhere else. Here we’re working extra hard. We’re doing whatever it takes to get you everything you need,” Schneider says.
