After sitting vacant for years the old Kmart building in Acme Township has a new use.

Leaders in the township approved plans Monday to divide the building into a muti-use facility.

The back of the former Kmart building will have warehouse space. In the middle is indoor storage, while the front will include Pickleball courts, office space, a coffee shop and fitness center. Plus, there will be new apartments. Something Acme Township Supervisor, Doug White, says will greatly help people looking for a place to live.

“I believe it’s going to have some positive impacts on the community. Having that it’s no different than any other place around here. Housing is the big thing,” White says.

They plan to build 186 apartments in nine buildings around the property. White says developers plan to begin construction by the end of the year.
