The PORCH in Traverse City Hosts Porch-A-Palooza for National Recovery Month

The PORCH in Traverse City hosted a drug recovery awareness event called Porch-A-Palooza on Tuesday.

Since September is National Recovery Month, this event brings awareness to recovery while building connections and hope to those in need of recovery.

All were welcomed to the all-day event, where there were activities like a corn hole tournament, plant workshops, hot food, and a marathon meeting aimed towards recovery.

The event was followed by a comedy show at the Traverse City Opera House featuring Sam Miller and Curtis Matthews.

“Because of COVID, we had to slow things down. We didn’t have any meetings here at the porch anymore.” Community Services Director Krysteena Burfield, said. “We usually do sober events and we weren’t able to do that. So this is just coming back, being able to do things with the community since COVID, and so being able to provide this as a foundation to move forward and put ourselves back out there again.”

The PORCH hopes to continue with these types of events going forward.
