Fire Destroys Multi-Use Building in DeTour

A fire in Chippewa County Monday evening destroyed a multi-use building.

A passerby called 911 just after 5 p.m. to report the DeTour Village Pavilion was on fire.

The pavilion was used for special events such as weddings, community gatherings, concerts and much more. It was also going to be used as part of the new Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Community members just broke ground on part of the park Monday morning, several hours before the fire broke out.

“We will move forward. We will rebuild the pavilion to accommodate what we had and hopefully it will fit in and become as much of part of the community as what this cool little building would,” said Susie Baker, Chairman of DeTour Parks and Recreation.

The memorial park construction will move forward while plans for a new pavilion are finalized once insurance adjusters finish their assessment.

The fire remains under investigation.
