A Traverse City business owner received national recognition for her efforts in helping end child sex abuse.

Denise Busley is the Co-Founder of the Grand Traverse Pie Company and a big supporter of the Traverse Bay Children Advocacy Center. Friday, she received the National Children’s Alliance Community Philanthropy & Leadership Award. She says she’s dedicated the last 12 years of her life for the advocacy for kids and calls it an amazing honor.

“I’m humbled beyond measures to receive this award. I’m trying to let it sink in. This is stunning,” Busley says.

Busley was selected from a national pool of candidates for her efforts in ending child sexual abuse. She says she’s honored to be recognized for her efforts.

“To be recognized in this way is, it’s been actually pretty emotional for me. It’s been a long 12 and a half years working on this issue and really hoping the community will join with their voices helping to prevent child sex abuse,” Busley states.

She says she’s been honored to be able to help out.

“We think a lot of times of philanthropy as just writing checks and me and Mike have been really fortunate to be able to do that, but I feel like the reason I’m sitting here talking to you today is because I chose to use my voice,” Busley explains.

The Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy says their thankful of the work she’s done for children and families through pie.

“I’m so honored by this award. To receive this recognition is incredible. And we hope to further the conversation locally and around the state,” Busley says.
