A group of women have picked two local nonprofits to receive $10,000 each.

100+ Women Who Care Grand Traverse and Leelanau County is a giving group that’s been helping local nonprofits since December 2011. The group meets four times a year and each woman gives $100 at each meeting totaling more than $10,000.

“The $10,000 donation a lot of times means the difference between being able to continue what they’re doing. Sometimes we’re there to help people get off the ground and get going with funding.  But sometimes it’s really the matter of being able to continue the service in the community,” said Kristin Marinoff of 100+ Women Who Care Grand Traverse and Leelanau County.

After missing the last meeting due to COVID-19, 100+ Women Who Care decided to select two nonprofits this time. They selected Boots for Kids and a new nonprofit called Kidney Companions.

Boots for Kids plans to use the money to buy winter clothes for around 400 kids in the area. Kidney Companions plans to use the money for traveling to transplant centers.

Since starting in 2011, more than 100 presentations have been made from local nonprofits in the five-county region. In more than 10 years they’ve donated over $340,000 to a variety of local nonprofits.

Their next meeting where they’ll select the next nonprofit is July 12 at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club.
