Crystal Mountain Celebrates World Snow Day on the Slopes

Crystal Mountain Ski Resort in Thompsonville welcomed people of all ages to come out and try skiing and snowboarding in honor of World Snow Day.

Mix that with Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month and you’ve got one busy weekend on the slopes.

“For us, we have one of our busiest days of the year going on right now.”

Snow Sports Director Chris Fisher has all of his instructors out, doing what they love.

“So out here on the hill, we’ve got a couple thousand people who are enjoying the slopes, really good conditions, we’ve got tons of snow right now,” Fisher said.

Many of them are first timers, taking group lessons and attending the free demonstrations.

“We did come out for lessons, actually most of the kids between today and yesterday had lessons going on and we’re gonna have this guy get lessons in February.”

Dan Calandriello and his family traveled all the way from Chicago to ski at Crystal Mountain.

“It’s a hike, but it’s worth it, get a full three days of skiing in,” Calandriello said.

The weather may be freezing, but that won’t stop anyone here.

“Just got to bundle up, a couple extra layers, that’s all,” Calandriello said.

The folks at Crystal Mountain invite everyone to come out and take a lesson before the season is over.

“For all of us involved here, this is our passion, this is what we love to do, and in snow sports, we want to share that passion with anybody who wants to come see what it’s about,” Fisher said.
