Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie and LSSU Create New Marketing Internship

Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie and Lake Superior State University have created a new marketing internship for LSSU students.

According to the United States Coast Guard, the internship is designed to give LSSU students a hands-on marketing and public relations experience in a federal workforce, as well as give them a glimpse of life in the Coast Guard while supporting its missions.

They say students will get to work closely with active duty members, and get underway with Coast Guard small boat stations and aircraft.

The program was launched with a signing ceremony on Nov. 17.

“Experiential learning and workforce readiness are pillars of LSSU’s academics, mission, and strategic plan, and this marketing internship helps our students develop practical skills and gain real world exposure to craft a life of meaningful employment in this important discipline,” said Dr. Rodney S. Hanley, President of Lake Superior State University. “This latest alliance with U.S. Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie not only builds on our longstanding annual tuition agreement but also is another way that the two organizations enable student Laker success. We look forward to more collaborations down the pike.”

“We are very excited to welcome LSSU students to support Sector Sault Ste. Marie, and our team is ready to help them grow professionally,” stated Sector Commander Captain Anthony Jones. “This internship offers a unique blend of creative marketing and project coordination. Our goal is to spread the word that U.S. Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie has so much to offer its team members and our community and that Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is an unparalleled place to call home.”
