Based on a recent study, nearly 13-percent of women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lifetime. The death rate is about 20 per 100-thousand. Bay Mills Health Center in Chippewa County is holding a three-day event where mammograms will be available.

The Spectrum Health Betty Ford Breast Care Services Mobile Mammography will be at the Bay Mills Health Center at the Ellen Marshall Memorial Center on September 22 & 24.

On September 23, it will be at the Bay Mills Casino. The event runs from 8 AM – 4 PM each day, and is open to tribal, and non-tribal members.

“One of the best parts of this unit is that we are in a rural area, you would have to go a half an hour away in Sault Ste Marie or even one hour away in Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in order to get your mammogram,” said case manager, Betty Jahnke.  “Early detection is the best medicine.  The earlier we can find it, the better the outcome will be…especially if you have a family history.”
