Mason Co Resource Center Provides Shelter, Protection, Advocacy to Victims of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault

A local victim’s resource center is helping survivors of violent crimes who may be impacted by the new Michigan Jail’s Task Force Legislation passed last year.

Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters (COVE) is a non-profit organization that provides resources for victims of sexual assault or domestic abuse; those include shelter, counselling, financial support, and other resources.

The non-profit says since the justice reform package was passed, their advocates have received numerous calls from victims who are terrified for their safety.

Caralee Bradshaw, associate director at COVE in Mason County, says, “It’s really kept our advocates busy, and that’s because when people aren’t going to jail, we can’t guarantee that the survivor is in a safe place. So, it’s increased a lot of our safety planning and resources that we’ve been providing to survivors.”

COVE says they also offer a 24-hour crisis helpline for anyone who may feel threatened.

The number is 1-800-950-5808.
