Mini Beekeepers Radiating Confidence at Applebee Farms In Fairview

Some people grow up having parents that are doctors, farmers, lawyers, etc. What about a beekeeper?

4 year-old Esther and her 6-year old sister Ruby are the daughters of a beekeeper in Fairview and on a bright sunny day you can see them working alongside their dad, Jubal Handrich.

Esther simply states, “bees are good!” Something Ruby explains further… “They can make sure the flowers stay alive so we can pick them.”

Applebee Farms is a family-run business that is giving their children hands-on opportunities. Safety is also a top priority for this family too- getting them in the proper gear and making sure they stay close to their dad Jubal. Ruby says, “you gotta make sure you don’t get stinged and you have to make sure you do everything correct.”

These two are learning more about environmental responsibility and science.  Esther says, “They eat the pollen and then spit it out to make honey.”

Every summer you can find these two hard at work alongside their dad. “My girls love it! It’s just a huge passion of theirs and it’s turned into a whole family passion,” says their mother Kalie Handrich.

At the end of the day Ruby leaves us with one final message…

“They are still amazing creatures even if they sting you!”
