Scott Blue from Barryton is on a mission to help other veterans rest in peace. He travels to cemeteries across Isabella County making sure Veteran’s graves are properly maintained, well-cared for and marked with the United States flag.

Scott says,”To me it’s my way of saying thank you to that veteran.” It’s not as easy as it may sound to find a veteran’s grave. Scott digs through old records and searches the internet for hours using a site called

“No one should have to hunt down a veteran and I know we did that today and it frustrates me because it should have been a process that’s taken place year after year after year,” says Scott.

Once he finds a Vet’s grave, he invests his time and money into cleaning the head stones and marking the plots. Scott says, “I walk, I check everything – every stone. I’ve got a bad habit if they’re dirty and I can’t see them I try to clean them off enough so I can at least makefin it legible.”

Scott is sacrificing his time and money to make sure these men and women are recognized. In just one afternoon Scott has marked 12 graves. This gives him a sense of purpose not just on Memorial Day but every day.
