Purses with a Purpose: Small Items, Big Meaning to Survivors of Sexual Assault

Purses are something many women carry with them wherever they go, but these ones serve a bigger purpose than most.

Purses with a Purpose is a joint effort by the Michigan State Police and the Oasis Family Resource Center.

The entities are gathering donations of gently-used purses—filled with items like mints, hygiene products, snacks, socks and more—and are giving them to survivors of sexual assault.

Purses and items can be dropped off at the MSP Cadillac Post, Oasis Resource Center, The Missaukee Prosecutor’s Office and Baker College.

And anyone who wants to help feed their community can bring food donations to Walmart in Cadillac on April 25 from 4 to 6 p.m.

MSP will be trying to stuff a patrol car with as much non-perishable food items as possible for the Cadillac Oasis pantry.
