A Greater Mission Honors Hometown Heroes in Sault Ste. Marie

The Youth Advisory Council is a group that’s been working on projects for around 20 years in Sault Ste. Marie.

They are about to embark on a project that will raise money for a couple dozen students who want to do mission work this summer in the Dominican Republic.

But there is a greater mission involved.

The group wants to shine the light on local veterans and their service to our country.

“It really spiraled in a matter of days from just a simple project of just a couple banners, to really expanding it through our whole community,” YAC Coordinator Abby Baker says. “That way we can honor more vets and utilize a place-making and beautification of our city.”

It’s called the Hometown Heroes Project.

So far, 149 poles have been secured to hold these banners.

The website will be up and running Wednesday at 6 a.m. for people that want to order banners.
