Lake Ontario Shipwreck Identified As Late 1800s Cargo Ship

A historic find in upstate New York where two explorers discovered the wreck of an old cargo ship in Lake Ontario.

Called the Black Duck, the cargo ship dates all the way back to the late 1800s.

Recently identified after being found hundreds of feet under water in 2013.

Researchers say this is rare and the boat’s captain took a risk by sailing on Lake Ontario because of the boat’s architecture and windy conditions.

The ship belongs to the New York State Department of Historic Preservation and the future of the wreck is now in their hands.
