MSU Police and Public Safety Confirm 3 Victims, Suspect Dead in Campus Shooting

Three of the deceased victims have been identified as the following:

  • Alexandria Verner, Junior, Clawson
  • Arielle Anderson, Sophomore, Harper Woods

Five victims remain in the hospital in critical condition.

11:14 a.m.

There have been reports of a note found on the suspect at the time of locating him. Michigan State University Police confirmed that there was in fact a note and it is currently being investigated by law enforcement.

Schools in Ewing, New Jersey are closed after the New Jersey Police State Department was notified of a local ties between McRae and the community. Initial investigation indicated the note included a threat to two Ewing Public Schools. Further investigation revealed the incident was isolated to Michigan, and there is no current threat to Ewing Schools.

9:36 a.m.

Governor Whitmer has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags within the State Capitol Complex and upon all public buildings and grounds across the state of Michigan to be lowered to half-staff immediately on Tuesday, February 14 until further notice to honor and remember the victims of the shooting at Michigan State University.

9:21 a.m.

Police say gunman who killed 3 at Michigan State University was 43-year-old Anthony McRae.

12:30 a.m.

Police say a man suspected of killing three people and wounding five more at Michigan State University on Monday night has died. They say the man apparently shot himself off campus.

11:40 p.m.

MSU Police and Public Safety confirm that three people have died in addition to the five people who were taken to the hospital earlier Monday night.

11:25 p.m.

Michigan State University Campus Police has released photos of the suspect taken from security cameras on campus.

They say he is a short Black male wearing red shoes, a jean jacket and a baseball cap that is navy with a lighter brim.

11 p.m.

John Foren, a Sparrow Hospital spokesman says that five victims were taken to Sparrow Hospital from the shooting that happened at MSU.

A press conference has been scheduled to talk about the shooting, campus police says.

10:17 p.m.

Campus police says that Brody hall, Snyder/Phillips Hall, Mason Hall, Abbot Hall, Landon Hall, the MSU Union and Berkey hall have all been cleared/secured.

They also say that the victims are currently being transported to the nearest hospital.

10 p.m.

MSU Police and Public Safety says that the suspect is a short male with a mask.

They are asking for people to continue sheltering in place as they are still receiving multiple calls of an active shooter on campus.

9:35 p.m.

IM East is being secured according to MSU Police and Public Safety. They say that it looks like there is only one suspect at this time.

9:30 p.m.

MSU Police and Public Safety says that they believe the suspect is on foot and that community members on and off campus should continue to shelter in place.

They also say there is another reported shooting at IM East that police are responding to. There are multiple reported injures.

9:20 p.m.

Michigan State University and Public Safety says that shots have been fired near Berkey Hall on the East Lansing campus of Michigan State University.

In their tweet, MSU Police and Public Safety is warning anyone on campus to please secure-in-place immediately and that police are active on the scene.

At this time there has been no official confirmation on how many people have been hurt, or if anyone has been killed.
