Central Michigan University Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day With Peace March

Monday is Martin Luther King Day, and celebrations are underway across Northern Michigan as people remember one of the most prominent leaders from the Civil Rights Movement.

At Central Michigan University, one of the many events students participated in was a Peace March.

The Peace March is an annual celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Students and organizers walked the streets of Mount Pleasant to honor MLK’s legacy.

Students say this day allows people to learn about the history and culture.

“Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and I really believe that MLK Day is a day on, not a day off,” Azuare Singleton-Moton, a senior at CMU, says. “I think it’s really important that they do it every year so people can learn different parts about my culture and different parts of history as well.”

CMU also held a Peace Service Monday morning which had hundreds of people in attendance.
