The holiday may be over but Otsego Toys for Tots is already busy shopping for gifts for next Christmas. They are taking advantage of the clearance deals at stores like Meijer and Walmart.
They spent their New Year picking up popular toys, like nerf guns and Barbie dolls, at stores. They tell us they got some of them for less than half the price. One doll was originally $40 but they bought it for $10!
Toys for Tots looks forward to these deals after the holidays every year so they can get a jumpstart before the busy season. Mike Hoeft, the Toys for Tots coordinator for Otsego County, says he’s “always out there trying to get my best bang for the buck and buy as many toys” as he can.
Hoeft says its a rewarding experience, especially when all the work the organization puts in throughout the year is recognized during the holidays.
He tells us “it’s pretty heartwarming. We get people leaving here with bags of toys, crying, you know, that we were able to help them and make their kid’s Christmas a little brighter.”
Otsego Toys for Tots is encouraging the community to buy any toy donations now to save a few bucks. All donations can be dropped off at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Gaylord.
