Michigan State Police Trooper Charged with Involuntary Manslaughter

Michigan State Police officials say an MSP trooper from the Lakeview Post has been arraigned on a charge of involuntary manslaughter after an on-duty traffic crash led to one death.

On June 24, Trooper Michael Fox was involved in an on-duty traffic crash. He was engaged in an emergency response driving with his emergency lights and siren activated when he proceeded through a red light at the intersection of Alger Road and M-46 where he hit another vehicle. MSP says that the passenger of the car that was hit died.

MSP investigated the crash, and after reviewing the investigation, the Gratiot County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a warrant for the charge of involuntary manslaughter, which is a felony punishable by 15 years in prison and/or a $7,500 fine.

MSP says Fox was placed on suspension on the day of the crash and will remain suspended pending the outcome of the criminal case and an internal administrative investigation.
