Mother of Long-Term Car Accident Victim Reacts to Court’s No Fault Insurance Decision

Victims of car crashes who require long-term care in Michigan this week.

People who were catastrophically injured in car crashes before 2019 could get insurance payments for their care again, if the ruling stands. The Michigan Court of Appeals ruled two to one yesterday that Michigan’s recent overhaul of no fault auto insurance is unconstitutional.

In 2007, was in a car accident that left her with a traumatic brain injury. Brittney’s mom says the fight is not over, but this is a step in the right direction.

“I’m very hopeful that moving forward, we can continue to improve her quality of life,” Kris Ruckle-Mahon, Ruckle’s mom, said. “She’s 24-years-old, you know, she’s got a long life ahead of her. So let’s hope that the insurance companies just simply have to, you know, pay her claim and continue her care, recovery and rehabilitation that she deserves and that we paid for. That’s all we’re asking for. Nothing more.”

The Insurance Alliance of Michigan, who represents insurance companies says they’re planning an appeal to the Michigan Supreme Court.
