On days like today, it’s awesome to get outdoors and do some gardening to brighten up a place.

Hearthside Assisted Living in Sault Ste. Marie is looking to do just that with their residents, but they need your help!

Hearthside has several raised garden beds in their courtyard that are empty right now, and need flower and vegetable plants to fill them up. They are looking for community members to donate a tray or two by Friday morning so the planting party can take place midday Friday.

The residents love brilliant colored flowers that they can not only see, but also smell. They say, it’s good for the mind and soul.

“The garden program has been amazing, it’s not only the health benefits but the emotional and social benefits of having a garden.  It’s just amazing,” said Wendy Pearce, Facility Supervisory. “The residents come out here and it’s something they look forward to.  They dig in the dirt, it brings back memories, they reminisce, just actually watching them getting the pure joy of watching something come up and growing.”

So for just a few bucks, you can get some flowers and make some seasoned citizens happy this summer at Hearthside in the Soo.  For More information on how you can help,
