A 41-year-old Saint Helen woman was charged Thursday after allegedly embezzling from a relative that she had guardianship of, according to Michigan State Police.

Kelly Haynie-Ulrech, 41, had been appointed as guardian of her relative in June 2017. Another relative petitioned the court in December 2021 to reevaluate the need for a guardian, and the guardianship was terminated in February.

The relative also reported the embezzlement in February, saying he had concerns about the misuse of money in the victim’s bank account.

After troopers got bank records, credit card statements, monthly bill statements, copies of checks, deposit slips, withdrawals and tax information, an arrest warrant was issued  for Haynie-Ulrech on June 1.

Haynie-Ulrech turned herself in on June 2 and was charged Thursday on one count of embezzlement from vulnerable adult, $50,000 to $100,000. Her bond was set at $25,000 10% cash surety, and she is due back in court in mid-July.
