One of the largest freighters on the Great Lakes is tied up in Sault Ste. Marie due to one of its engines breaking down.
The one thousand four foot long Mesabi Miner was on its way to St. Clair Monday afternoon when it encountered engine problems. It tied down on the southwest pier just west of the Soo Locks to assess the issue.
Tuesday, its sister ship, the James R. Barker, dropped off the necessary spare parts so the crew could make repairs. The miner is loaded with coal and is expected to be underway Thursday.
