Island House Hotel in Mackinac Island Announces the Death of Victor Callewaert

Victor Callewaert, a Mackinac Island resident and prominent business owner, died Monday according to a Facebook post made by Island House Hotel.

Callewaert was known as a business man on Mackinac Island. His family owned Island House Hotel and Ryba’s Fudge shops, among other landmarks. In 2020, he and his family were awarded “Legendary Family Historic Hotelier of the Year” by the Historic Hotels of America.

The Island House Hotel stated in a Facebook post that “…he will be fondly remembered for numerous contributions to the Mackinac Island community. It is our honor to carry the torch ensuring that Victor’s legacy is proudly carried into the future.”

Mackinac Island Tourism shared a Facebook post where they said, “A mentor, businessman, friend, and fierce supporter of Mackinac Island, Victor Callewaert has touched so many lives. It’s hard to put into words what Victor has done for our community, businesses, and organization’s.”

As of right now, we do not know his cause of death.
