Short Staffing Still Big Problem in Northern Michigan

One of the biggest impacts the pandemic has had is on the workforce and staffing.

Businesses started offering hiring bonuses as it became more difficult to find people to work.

The Cadillac Area Chamber of Commerce says employers also started offering more perks to the job like childcare, broadband and flexible hours.

They said businesses had to get creative in order to attract new employees—but are still having trouble finding workers.

“One year later we’re still looking at bonuses, but we’re also looking at a lot of creative benefits to match the employees needs and meet them half way,” said Cadillac Area Chamber of Commerce President Caitlyn Berard.

The chamber says downtown businesses especially are looking for help before their busy summer season.
