Fire Destroys Future Traverse City Bike Shop

Owners of the upcoming “Black Market Cycle Shop” on Chum’s Corner lost everything before they could even open their doors.

Blair Township Firefighters responded to calls around 2 a.m. on Saturday morning from someone driving by on US-31.

“I spoke to the owners that night, they did have several bikes they were storing in there, we were able to save several of those motorcycles and they were able to take them to a different location,” said Blair Township Fire Chief Bill Parker.

The owners of the future bike shop had just purchased the building, formerly belonging to North Shore Pest Control and were in the process of remodeling it.

Firefighters say it took about four hours to put out the flames that left the building in ruins.

“There was not any civilian or firefighter injured, we had approximately five additional departments that assisted us with that fire, it went to a second alarm assignment to get those additional departments to us to help us on Saturday morning,” said Parker.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
