35-Year-Old Clare Woman Dies in Car Crash on M-115 in Clare County

A car crash along M-115 in Clare County Friday killed a 35-year-old woman from Clare.

Around 6:56 p.m., Clare County Central Dispatch was notified about a car crash on M-115 near Harding Avenue in Surrey Township.

Deputies from the Clare County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find the driver of a Dodge Caliber unresponsive. The Clare County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team was called to investigate.

Their investigation found that a 2009 Black Dodge Caliber was traveling southeast on M-115 near Harding Avenue when it swerved to avoid hitting another car that was turning into Jared’s Express Mart. The Caliber then rolled multiple times and crossed into the path of a 2016 Ford F-250 that was traveling northwest.

The Ford F-250, which was driven by a 46-year-old Traverse City man, collided with the top rear area of the Dodge Caliber.

Deputies say Jenifer Leggett, 35, of Clare was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries, but later died.

They say speed appears to be a factor in the crash, and it remains under investigation.
