“I love the energy, I love the bustling, I love the energy in the morning, people are happy, they’re excited,” said owner Leslie Elsen about her restaurant, Benedict.

She says the name for the Traverse City restaurant was a no brainer.

“For me, Benedict is the classics but revamped, revived, and done in a way that really shows the egg as the hero it is, they’re like complete protein,” she said.

But every hero needs a sidekick.

Here, that’s chef John Kehl’s homemade biscuits.

“They’re significantly fluffier, you can taste the butter a lot more,” he described.

That biscuit will be the foundation for one of their most popular dishes, the Northerner.

The cherry on top of it all is the cherry tomato jam.

“It’s Michigan cherries from farm to freezer that we blend with roasted tomatoes to make more of a sweet and salty sour salsa that goes on top,” said Leslie. “Then you have your egg on top, you crack it open and it kind of seeps in.”

Benedict caters to the savory…

“My favorite is the eggs benedict,” said customer, Aric Browning.

And the sweet.

The French toast pudding toppings change pretty regularly depending on what’s in season.

This week is their take on a key lime pie.

Whether you’re stopping in for breakfast, lunch, or anything in between.

You’re in for a meal that is all it’s cracked up to be.

“John’s not going to let anything come out to the table unless it’s perfect,” said Aric.

“Come as you are, goofy, weird, you can be a part of Benedict,” said Leslie. “We do have a lot of regulars who come here daily, weekly, and we really try to make sure those people are treated special and we see them and they’re part of our restaurant family.”

You can find Benedict at 237 Lake Avenue in Traverse City, or call them at 231-421-1000.
