Congressman Moolenaar, Senator Stabenow Release Statements Following Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s Address to Congress

Congressman John Moolenaar (R-Midland) and Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) have released statements following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s address to Congress Wednesday morning.

“President Zelenskyy has shown incredible courage and bravery during Russia’s invasion and his remarks today were inspiring,” stated Congressman Moolenaar. “His heroic leadership and patriotism have led the Ukrainian people through weeks of war, and they have fared far better than anyone ever expected. The Biden Administration must work quickly with our allies to ensure Ukraine has the military aid it needs to fight for its survival and defeat the invasion.”

“President Zelensky just spoke to a joint session of Congress. I continue to be deeply moved by his astonishing courage and determination as well as that of the Ukrainian people in the face of an unprovoked, brutal, and relentless assault on their country,” said Senator Stabenow. “President Biden and Congress must continue to do everything we can to help them defend their people and their democracy. That includes the billions in essential aid just passed in the recent appropriations bill for military assistance to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and critical humanitarian assistance. And it includes continuing to hit Putin and his oligarchs where they feel it most – in their bank accounts. The people of Ukraine are standing strong – and Americans are with them in prayer and in action.”

In his address to Congress, President Zelenskyy appealed for the United States to do more to help Ukraine in their fight against Russia.

He cited Pearl Harbor and the Sept. 11 attacks, as well as stated that the U.S. must sanction Russian lawmakers and block imports.

“We need you right now,” stated Zelenskyy. “I call on you to do more.”
