Florida lawmakers have passed a bill that opponents call the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
It would limit what schools can discuss about sexual orientation and gender.
Supporters of the bill say they’re trying to limit younger children’s exposure to sensitive issues.
Opponents say it would create more struggles for already marginalized LGBTQ youth.
There’s especially concern over a provision that allows parents to sue school districts, and worry that the bill’s broad language could end up affecting more than just younger grades.
The bill now heads to Governor Ron DeSantis, who has voiced his support.
