There are two free fishing weekends in Michigan, and that means a fishing license isn’t required to fish.
This weekend just so happens to be one of the state’s free fishing weekends.
On Feb. 19 and 20, you do not need a license to fish all over the state. Non-residents can also fish for free.
An ice fishing tournament is being held to coincide with the free fishing weekend, and it’s the biggest one in northern Michigan.
It’s a day-and-a-half of fishing, and they offer $500 in prizes.
The event is family-friendly, and people are encouraged to bring their kids along for the fun.
“You’ll see some huge fish from all over this area,” said Tournament Director John Ratcliffe. “It’s just a great, fun time.”
The tournament begins Saturday at 6 a.m.
