Hook & Hunting: DNR Releases New Walleye Management Plan

The DNR has released a new management plan for Walleye fish, specifically for inland rivers and lakes.

This plan would help formalize strategies to protect the Walleye population.

That includes goals for harvesting, and protection from climate change and invasive species.

Houghton Lake has a walleye population that the DNR does survey work at that helped them create this plan.

“Survey work helps inform various strategies and the tools that we have at our disposal for managing any given fish population, Walleye included,” said DNR Fisheries Aquatic Species and Regulatory Affairs Manager Seth Herbst.
