Bringing the Arctic grayling back to Michigan just got a big boost from Consumers Energy.

The Consumers Energy Foundation recently gave a $70,000 grant to Northern Michigan University and the DNR.

The money will be used to evaluate chambers for raising Arctic grayling eggs in Michigan streams.

Arctic grayling haven’t been in Michigan since the 1930’s.

“Consumers Energy Foundation is really proud to support this effort with Northern Michigan University and the Department of Natural Resources to bring Arctic grayling back to the state of Michigan. The foundation is committed to doing what we can to support Michigan’s natural resources our beautiful environment, it’s one of the priorities for the foundation,” said Josh Paciorek, Media Relations Specialist with Consumers Energy.

More than 40 groups and organizations are working to bring the Arctic grayling back to Michigan.
