VFW Post 1518 Gaylord to Hold Ceremony For Wreaths Across America

Wreaths Across America has been honoring veterans during the holidays since 1992.

The annual ceremony first began at Arlington National Cemetery and has continued at cemeteries around the nation ever since.

This year, the organization has partnered with VFW Post 1518 to hold an official ceremony at Fairview Cemetery in Gaylord.

Major Jonathon Turnbull will serve as guest speaker, along with the performance of patriotic songs and salutes.

VFW Commander Ron Lebourdais looks forward to seeing the community come together again to honor fallen veterans.

“This has turned into a community event,” Lebourdais said. “We just love it because everybody gets out there and enjoys the ceremony and then gets out with their families and puts the wreaths on the veteran graves.”

Following the ceremony, 835 wreaths will be placed on the graves of veterans.

“Hopefully, in the next few years, we’ll be able to do all 1,700 of those veteran graves,” Lebourdais said.

The event takes place on Saturday, December 18th at noon.
