A Chippewa County hospital has joined forces with a bigger medical facility.
War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie has been an independent hospital for more than a century, and since 1986, not-for-profit.
But they’ve merged with Mid-Michigan Health.
The two will now be known as My Michigan Health. The hospital says it will mean more medical services for Sault Ste. Marie.
They explained the merger at a town hall Wednesday.
Several other health systems were considered for the merger, but hospital administrators say Mid-Michigan was the best choice.
“Benefits of the affiliation we could see, we could improve things for our community, improve access to care, improve the number of services we offer in Sault Ste. Marie, which would benefit all the patients,” said David Jahn, CEO of War Memorial Hospital.
The new name of the hospital will be “My Michigan Medical Center – Sault.”
