Two Arrested For Meth, Other Drugs in Chippewa County

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office says TRIDENT Detectives have arrested two people who had been transporting narcotics from lower Michigan to the Sault Ste. Marie area.

Deputies say Wednesday evening, the Sheriff’s Office was working with TRIDENT detectives. They say a traffic stop was attempted on a northbound car on I-75 near the county line, but the car immediately sped up and drastically swerved back and fourth into both lanes as well as the shoulder of the highway.

After about a mile-and-a-half, the car stopped.

Deputies say the driver was identified as Matthew Sauro, 33, of Sault Ste. Marie. The passenger was identified as Jessica Rye, 29, of Sault Ste. Marie.

They say Sauro was found to be driving without a valid license and admitted to having suboxone on his person.

Deputies say a small packet of heroin was given to detectives by Rye. Detectives also received information that a large amount of narcotics were thrown from the car before the car stopped.

A search of the area resulted in the seizure of a large amount of meth, crack cocaine, heroin and fentanyl. Additionally, several search warrants were conducted during the investigation, which lead to additional narcotics and evidence.

Deputies say Sauro has been charged with: possession with intent to deliver meth, possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of fentanyl, conspiracy to deliver meth, heroin and cocaine, reckless driving and driving without a license.

Rye has been charged with possession with: intent to deliver meth, possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of fentanyl, conspiracy to deliver meth, heroin and cocaine, arrested on a local warrant.

Deputies say both Sauro and Rye were arraigned in the 91st District Court, and are innocent until proven guilty.
