Lawmakers Gather To Honor Life and Legacy of Former Congressman Dan Benishek

On Wednesday, Representative Jack Bergman, joined by his Michigan House colleagues and Senator Debbie Stabenow, gathered on the U.S. House of Representatives floor to honor the life and legacy of former Congressman Dan Benishek.

Known as “Dr. Dan,” Congressman Benishek served three terms as a Republican from the Upper Peninsula in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 to 2017.

Benishek is known for championing numerous reforms to VA hospitals and advocating for enhanced accountability in veteran’s healthcare.

Current First District Congressman Jack Bergman spoke Wednesday, remembering what Benishek accomplished.

“He embodied servant leadership and was an ally to all our veterans to all who were blessed to call Michigan’s 1st District ‘home’,” said Congressman Bergman.

Benishek was 69-years-old and is survived by his wife, five children and five grandchildren.
