Hook and Hunting: Early Waterfowl Hunting Season Begins

September 1 started the first day of early Waterfowl hunting season.

The normal Waterfowl hunting season starts at the end of September in the U.P. and in October for the rest of the state.

The DNR says the early season is a great way for hunters to get out in the field for the long awaited hunting season, as well as harvest nuisance geese that get into crop fields.

“Some of these crop fields they get devastated if they get hundreds of geese in there eating winter feed or some other crops,” said DNR Lt. Jim Gorno “It helps the farmers and it helps the hunters get out early.”
