Unemployment Insurance Claimants Receive New Debit Cards

The Unemployment Insurance Agency says they are reminding claimants who receive their benefits on a debit card that a new debit card was issued earlier this month by U.S. Bank.

This comes after the State of Michigan changed their debit card provider for unemployment benefits from Bank of America to U.S. Bank earlier this year, and as of Aug. 25, new unemployment funds will be deposited to the new U.S. Bank cards.

They say claimants can use their Bank of America cards until Nov. 30 after Bank of America extended the original Nov. 1 deactivation date to “ensure cardholders have adequate time to use or transfer all remaining funds.”

The Unemployment Insurance Agency says claimants are advised to review any correspondence they receive from Bank of America regarding deadlines and how to access funds on Bank of America’s debit cards.

Additionally, they say funds on the Bank of America debit cards cannot be transferred to the new U.S. Bank debit card, but any remaining funds can be transferred to an individuals checking or savings accounts.

Any claimant that has not received their new debit card are urged to verify that the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency has their current address on file. Claimants do have the option of receiving their unemployment benefits through direct deposit to their bank accounts or through the U.S. Bank debit card.
