More Republican Leaders Encouraging Vaccination Amid Summer Surge

There are new indications that the feared COVID-19 summer surge has arrived.

It’s being fueled by the more contagious Delta variant that now accounts for more than 80% of new cases.

The variant is leading to hospitalizations and deaths in unvaccinated Americans.

Louisiana has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the U.S.

On Tuesday, number two Republican in the House, Louisiana Representative Steve Scalise, got his first COVID-19 shot.

He is adding to a number of Republicans now encouraging Americans to get vaccinated against the virus.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says all Americans should get vaccinated “ignore all of these other voices that are giving demonstrably bad advice.”

The CDC reports less than half of the country is fully vaccinated.
