Elise Stefanik Named House Republican Chair

Representative Elise Stefanik (N.Y.) has been named the new House Republican chair, replacing Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.) who was ousted this week after two years in the No. 3 post.

Rep. Stefanik has been a close ally of former President Donald Trump, and Republicans hope this vote can ease tension within the party.

Stefanik gained support from most of her colleagues, but did face backlash from some members who felt she was too moderate. Leading up to the vote, Stefanik was the only nomination to replace Cheney until Texas Republican Chip Roy entered the race just before the vote.

Rep. Cheney says she will still remain an outspoken objector to election fraud claims and former President Trump.
