Endless beaches, the famous dune climb, and breathtaking views of Lake Michigan are just a snippet of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. People from around the world come to experience the historical landmarks throughout the year, and Tuesday, October 21st officially marks the lakeshore’s 50th anniversary.
Celebrations are already underway and the national parks’ staff are directing people to check out their website and social media for the specifics on how everyone can take part.
“It’s an opportunity to look back and see the history of the park, all the people that contributed to the formation of the park, all the things that have changed over the year, the dreams that people had for this area, and you know it’s also a chance to talk about some of the difficulties. It’s a chance to look at both the past, and the current but also to look toward the future. That was one of the things I really wanted to do with the 50th anniversary was also to look forward to the future,” says director of visitor services for Sleeping Bears Dunes National Lakeshore, Merrith Baughman.
