CDC Adds Age Data to Infection Fatality Rate for COVID-19

The CDC added a new way to report coronavirus death rates.

Now, it will report the infection fatality rate by age.

Using this factor, the CDC says less than 1% of people who contracted the virus died from it except in the case of patients over the age of 70.

The COVID-19 death rate in people 70 and older is more than five times that of any other age range.

It stands at nearly 5.5%.

The CDC report is based on estimates since the agency does not know the exact number of infections.
