“Talking with her today, we learned that she did lose a lot of family heirlooms.”

The owner of a St. Ignace business lost more than just equipment in a fire on Friday.

The fire started at the 7th Heaven Salon and Spa around 2:30 in the afternoon.

A passerby noticed smoking coming out of the back of the building and called 9-1-1.

When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke and flames.

Fire officials say they went to the rear of the building, but due to the nature of the fire, they had to attack it from the front and above.

The business owner lost a lot of family history in the fire.

“Family heirlooms, such as family paintings, unpublished books, said Anna Cox, a friend of the spa’s owner.

“She had a lot of antiques in there and pictures. It’s very upsetting.”

Four fire departments battled the fire.

The cause remains under investigation.
