Mothers of two Traverse City West High School seniors are raising money for the Senior Night party to celebrate graduation.

The event is all based on donations are volunteers.

They are collecting shoes through March 15 to raise funds for the Senior Night celebration happening on June 2.

The shoes will be donated to , whose staff have traveled to developing nations to see micro-entrepreneurs who have set up small businesses. Because of systemic poverty in many developing countries around the world, working-age adults have to create their own economic opportunities.

The shoes collected can serve as a philanthropic bridge to give people a hand-up and work opportunity. The small business owners sell the shoes in their communities, which creates business and commerce opportunities, leading to sustainability.

They are now accepting donations of new or gently-worn shoes. Their goal is to collect 2,500 shoes by March 15.

You can drop off shoe donations at the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, the Faith Reform Church, 2 Men and a Truck, or Traverse City West High School.
