Detectives continue their investigation in what caused a Piper Fixed Wing twin-engine plane to crash Sunday night on Beaver Island.

We also now know the name of the pilot who was killed in the crash.

Donald Falik from Charlotte was the only person on the plane when it went down.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

After an extensive search, crews found his plane in a heavily wooded area off of Buff Kett road, near Peaine Township Airport.

Local deputies will be on scene for the time being as the government shutdown is preventing federal investigators from coming in.

“The NTSB have been contacted, they are not coming, the FAA is interested but due to the government or federal shutdown, they can’t come, so we have to maintain the crash site until they can get here,” Charlevoix County Sheriff Chuck Vondra, said.

Deputies say Falik had home on Beaver Island and believe he was headed back downstate when he crashed.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
