Wednesday is National Kick Butts Day. It’s a day where thousands of advocates stand up against the tobacco industry.

Tobacco use is still the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S.

It kills more than 480,000 people every year.

Here’s a look at the toll of tobacco on kids in Michigan.

According to the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, around 10 percent of high school students are smokers, more than 53,000 young people.

They also state 23 percent use e-cigarettes, and around 5,200 kids under 18 will become new daily smokers each year.
